The Browning 0.5inch (12.7mm) M2 (HB) heavy machine gun had been in American service since 1921 and became one of the best anti-personnel weapons ever used. it was also capable of firing armour-piercing rounds. In this picture the crew were using the guns effective range of over 2000 yards (1820m) to provide interdictory fire against enemy movements across the river.
