Rangers of the 2nd Bn

Rangers of the 2nd Bn walking on the seafront at Weymouth to join their barges. The Rangers embarked on 1 June 1944 and for five days remained on board their British ships for safety reasons. Here some soldiers carry Bangalore torpedoes and all are wearing boots and gaiters. Others are equipped with the green cloth assault vest. As these vests were distributed only ten days before June 6, it is ikely that this photo was taken just prior to boarding and not during one of many rehearsals.
