Embarking onto ships at the beginning of June 1944 in readiness for Operation Overlord. In the foreground is a LCT (Mark 6) carrying a Trailer, Athey Track Laying 6ton BT898-4 responsible for laying anti-silting for landing on beaches. Besides another LCT (Mark 6) can be seen a number of crane arms lifting truss (type crane caterpillar). Vehicles (jeeps and trailers) of the 1st US Division along with a bow-type D-7 Caterpillar and several GI's are waiting for boarding. Three sailors from the U.S. Navy are wearing white hats in the foreground. This is Portland Harbour.
