Lt Col Charles Merritt VC

Lieutenant Colonel Charles Merritt VC Commander South Saskatchewan Regiment after his release from captivity in 1945. Lt Col Merritt was captured whilst rallying a rearguard party of the Sasketchewans who were holding the perimeter of Green Beach as he remainder of his battalion tried to escape on landing craft. He was awarded the Victoria Cross for this and other acts of valour during the raid.
