The arrival of Lee and Grant tanks in the desert at last gave the British weapons that could take on the German Panzer IVs on something like parity. The sponson-mounted 75mm gun and the turret-mounted 37mm gun gave it the kind of punch that had been missing in British armour. Pictured here is the Lee, it differed from the Grant in having a commander's machine gun cuppola on the top of the turret.
