On May 5, 1945, Lieutenant-General Alexander "Sandy" Patch, Jr. (Commander of the 7th United States Army) met with Generalfeldmarschall Gerd von Rundstedt, a former Oberbefehlshaber West, who was captured by American troops from the 36th Infantry Division along with his son, Lieutenant Hans von Rundstedt, in Bad Tölz (Bavaria) on May 1, 1945. This photograph was taken at the 7th Army headquarters in Augsburg which is still part of Bavaria, Germany. Just a few days later, exactly on May 7, 1945, Patch's forces caught a larger "fish", namely Reichsmarschall Hermann Göring, the second man in the Nazi hierarchy after Adolf Hitler!
