Lt Gen Bernard Freyberg VC, Commander New Zealand II Corps, was a true New Zealand hero. During World War 1, Freyberg won the Victoria Cross whilst in command of a battalion was awarded the DSO with two bars was mentioned in dispatches five times was wounded n six separate occasions (suffering ten individual wounds) and ended the war as a brigadier general.
