Major Colin Gray, the Army Liaison Officer (ALO) points out the co-ordinates for an air strike requested by the Army to Squadron Leader R A Sutherland, who will relay the request to the Army/Composite Group headquarters. VCPs operated from as near the front line as possible, normally with an Army Brigade headquarters, relaying requests for air support from the Army to the RAF Group Control Centres and then directing aircraft onto the target by VHF radio communication.
