BHC 300015 First World War Poster - Eat less bread

Ref: BHC 300015

This image produced in 1917 at the height of the German U-boat campaign, which threatened to bring Britain to her knees, 'Eat Less Bread' was a blunt demand for the public to exercise moderation in consumption of dwindling grain stocks. Ironically, the simplicity of the poster shares characteristics with German pre-war and wartime posters, but exhibits much less design finesse. It shows a loaf of bread with the text EAT LESS BREAD. Produced by the Ministry of Food it is Poster No. 19 in that series.
