BHC 200504 American Soldiers boarding in Weymouth

American soldiers embarking on a ship at the beginning of June 1944 in preparation for Operation Overlord. Embarking on LST-134 is a GMC truck equipped with a shelter type HO/HQ-17 and pushing (pulling on board) a trailer K-52/PE95. On the bumper a camouflage net can clearly be seen. This is Portland harbour and these transports are scheduled to take men and equipment to Easy Red transporting HQ units attached to the 1st US Division. This flotilla was to land units of the 18th RCT on the beaches of Fox Green and Easy Red (eastern sector of Omaha Beach) on June 6, 1944. This is part of LST Group 30 of the LST Flotilla 12.
