On board Landing Ship Infantry (Hand Hoisting) HMS Maid of Orleans (Landing Table Index Number S75), between 3 and 7 June 1944.

Men of No. 4 Commando, 1 Special Service Brigade, pass the time by reading and playing chess. On the right is Private Peter James Gulvin who was killed on 6 June, on the left is Lance Bombardier Spencer who survived the war.

No.4 Commando landed on QUEEN RED Beach in SWORD Area at about H+45 (08.10 hours) on 6 June 1944.
