BHC 001065 Queen White Beach Sword area

Ref: BHC 001065

Army and Navy Beach Group personnel at Exit 14, QUEEN WHITE Beach, SWORD Area, on 7 June 1944.
The shelter on the left has been dug under an abandoned Small Box Girder assault bridge which it uses as a support for its canvas roof.
This bridge was laid there by 1 Troop, 79 Assault Squadron RE on D Day, just to the right of Exit 14 (rue BeausÈjour in Hermanville-sur-Mer).
The heavily damaged large building in the centre, Villa BeausÈjour, did not survive the war, but the smaller house on the right, Villa Les Vagues, did, and can be found at the corner of avenue Carnot (Exit 13) and Boulevard de la Mer (the promenade).
