BHC 001051 Troops of No.46 RM Commando and a Centaur Mark IV CS

Ref: BHC 001051

Troops of No.46 Royal Marine Commando and a Centaur Mark IV CS (Close Support, armed with a 95 mm howitzer) of 4 Battery, 2 Royal Marine Armoured Support Regiment with local people in rue de la Mer in Luc-sur-Mer in the afternnon of 7 June 1944, during their attack of the German strongpoint at Petit Enfer.

This is the end of the rue de la Mer where it reaches the promenade (rue Guynemer). Opposite rue de la Mer is a paved slope going down to the beach, called "BrËche Kioc" or "Quilhoc".
The tall building on the left is the Hotel du Petit Enfer, and the one barely visible on the right is the Hotel des Familles (Hotel L'Hermitage post-war). Across rue Guynemer and opposite the Hotel du Petit Enfer is the souvenir shop aptly named "Au Petit Paradis".

The large dark sign on the left corner reads:
HOTEL du PETIT ENFER
GARAGE followed with a hand pointing left (back up the rue de la Mer) to lead motorists to the hotel's parking space.

A fire destroyed the Hotel du Petit Enfer during the night of 12 to 13 February 1966. All the buildings on the photo have now disappeared, replaced by post-war constructions.
