REME mechanics working on broken down or damaged Crusader tanks in a wide open expanse of the desert. Eighth Army came in for much criticism about the number of damaged tanks that were not recovered from the battlefield and put back into service, but left for the enemy to capture or destroy. The Germans had a very efficient recovery service that removed damaged tanks for repair even while a battle was still raging.
