View of the Rapido Valley in Monte Cassino 1944: Photograph BHC 000429
Zoom Image

View looking north-east across the Rapido valley from Monte Trocchio. This is the area of the valley to the north of Cassino town over which US 34th Division attacked during the first battle. The area of the Italian barracks is almost dead centre in the picture at the base of the hills, with the small Hill 56 to the right and Point 213 behind. On the right of the picture is the route up to Cairo village.
