An infantryman of the 3rd Bn, 18 Infantry Regt, 1st Division, 1st Army pausing in his advance through the forest near Sourbrodt on the 19 Dec 44. During the first ten days of the battle confusion reigned as hastily shifted troops arrived to reinforce the efforts of the isolated units attempting to halt the enemy attack.
